Flan-tastic {Recipe}

This weekend my best friend, Krystal and her son came for their monthly visit. We had the long weekend to hang out, chit chat and whip up some yummy treats.

Krystal shared with me a family recipe for the Puerto Rican staple of Flan de Queso. Which is the equivalent to a French Crème Brûlée. I absolutely Love. Love. Love. Flan, but always thought it complicated to make and in all reality it was easy peasy.  You may have very well thought the same thing, so I’m sharing the recipe with you, so you can take a crack at it.

  • 1 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 2 cans of Evaporated Milk
  • 1 can of Condensed Milk
  • 6 Eggs
  • 1/2 tsp of Vanilla Extract
  • 4 oz of Cream Cheese

Take the sugar pour it into a small pot, add 1/4 cup of water and bring to a boil. Make sure to constantly stir the mixture. It will begin to bubble and turn into caramel.

Mix the evaporated milk, condensed milk, eggs, vanilla extract and cream cheese in a blender. Blend till smooth. Pour and spread the caramel on the bottom of your pan. Carefully add the blended mixture on top.

Pre-heat your oven to 375. Placing the flan mixture into a baño de María to bake. A baño de María or bain-marie is a water bath, which you accomplish by placing your baking dish into a larger pan filled mid-way with water. Bake for about 45 – 55  mins or until when puncturing with a knife it comes out clean.

Take your finished Flan and refrigerate it for the minimum of 3 hours.

There you have pure DELICIOUS-NESS. I couldn’t resist and had to cut 2 pieces for myself.

Thank you for your comment. I read and appreciate each one!
