Seven Months

Yes, it’s been roughly seven months since I’ve showed my face around these parts.  I can’t believe it’s been that long.

A lot has changed in these past 7 months, from our location to employment to school and much more.  There’s so much to fill you in on. I’ll definitely get to it, little by little.

In the mean time, I wanted to share with you a fun craft I whipped up last week.  Can you guess what it is?  If you’ve been reading for sometime, chances are you know how obsessed I am with wreaths.  I love making one for the month’s theme. And since we’re celebrating LOVE this month, I knew I wanted to spread some throughout my home & front door.

While organizing my craft closet, I came across some burlap, which I forgot I had. I grabbed one of the many wreaths, I’ve picked up from the Dollar Tree, and began wrapping the burlap around the wreath.  Following that I went rummaging through the rest of my stash and found red ric rac, along with some cute Valentine themed fabric.

Burlap Valentine's Day Wreath

With the fabric and ric rac I created a cluster of flowers, which included yo-yos and kanzashi.  From there I created a pennant banner from the burlap and fabric.

Here’s a close-up of the cluster. I just love how the kanzashi flower came out.  I have a strong feeling I’ll be making more of them. I envision some cute headbands for my daughter.  And there you have this month’s front door happiness.

Come back for a visit this week, I expect to be back.

Hello Spring Monday

Hey friends! How’s it going?  It is absolutely beautiful here in the Poconos. I’m totally enjoying the weather.  The whole week is going to be GORG!!  Perfect timing, because I was sooooo through with Winter.

Well it’s Monday and you know what the means.  Time to say HELLO!!

Hello running kicks.  I was able to get out for a few runs this past weekend. And I will certainly be logging in some miles during this “heat wave.”

Hello sleep deprivation. UGH!!  Lil Red had a really bad night last night, which means so did this mama.  I hope tonight is better.

Hello recital tickets.  Tickets for Gordita’s very first dance recital went on sale yesterday.  I scooped up ours.  I’m absolutely stoked to see my Mini-Me on the stage doing her thing.

dance tixxs

Hello oatmeal containers, which I took from drab to FAB!  I made two sweet headband holders for my mother-in-law’s best friend’s granddaughter.  Did you catch that one? 😉  I used scrap book paper for these, along with ribbon and jeweled embellishments.  I especially love the purple cheetah one, it has personality.

Hello Thank you cards.  I found one on my desk this morning, which brightened my day even further.  Sometimes its the smallest of gestures that leave lasting impressions.

Hello BBQ grill.  I’m sending the Hubz onto the deck for some grilling.  Cause this gal right here is a bit of a chicken, when it comes to the grill.  My previously singed arm hair agrees with me.  Anyhoo, I’m gonna have him throw down some chicken, tilapia and veggies for the week.  YUMZ!!!

So, let’s get this week rolling, amigos! Linking up to the Lovely Lisa.

A Father’s Project {Rhys’s Rhyme: Ode to Hearts}

I’m back!  I hadn’t expected to be gone for so long. Actually, I hadn’t expected to return today either.  I’ve been planning my return, working on some fun new things to share.  But at this moment I just can’t contain myself.  In fact, I want to climb to the highest rooftop and announce to the world, how enamored I am of my husband.  For today he’s made me love him that much more.

Rewind a few months back, when The Hubz sat me down and read a poem.  In truth it was an ode, and Ode to Lil Red.  He brought me to tears.  He spoke of our son’s journey into this crazy world, and how Lil Red overcame what defined the beginning of his existence.  He went on to share his vision with me.  How he intended to turn his words into a book.  Of course, I loved his concept.

So, for the past month The Hubz has poured his heart and soul into this project.  He’s worked on it day in and day out.  He found himself an illustrator and expanded the story line.  He put the finishing touches on the book just this morning.

Folks, I am absolutely over the moon to announce that my wonderful husband published his first book:  Rhys’s Rhyme: Ode to Hearts  The book is available in hard and soft cover on Blurb.com and as an E-book on Blurb and Lulu.com.

Rhys's Rhyme: Ode to Hearts

Rhys’s Rhyme is the composition of a father’s love and the fortitude and moxie of a mighty little redheaded baby boy.  It proves that courage can manifest itself in the smallest of packages.

To say that I am proud of my hubby is an understatement.  His devotion to his children is ever more apparent, in his beautiful creation.  Robert you’ve gotten me positively verklempt.  I love you today, tomorrow and always.

Gettin’ Crafty {Poconos #Pinterest Peeps}

For so many Pinterest has practically become the Holy Grail.  Need a delectable recipe, log onto Pinterest, want to repurpose wine bottles, log onto Pinterest, need to reorganize your home, log onto Pinterest.  You get my point.  Pinterest has an endless amount of ideas or what us “in kids” say, Pinspiration. And, I can certainly attest to it all, considering I have 57 boards and have pinned over 2,700 items.

At the same token, Pinterest can suck you in for hours and hours and hours. And all you’ve done is pin, pin, pin with nothing tangible to show for it.  So, I decided to go out on a limb and create a little Facebook group called Poconos Pinterest Peeps.  Our purpose, to meet once a month & as I call it, “Get Our Craft On.”  The group is about getting from behind our computers, and in place, socializing and recreating the pins that inspire us.

After a month of pinning to our group board & chatting it up on Facebook, we met last night.  It was a shame we had a ton of last minute cancellations, but we made the best of it.

Prior to meeting, the group voted to recreate these adorable Dryer Vent Snowmen found on Timeless Treasures.

We arrived at the library with our Pinterest inspired snacks (totally forgot to take pics of those) and craft materials & got busy.  And without further ado, her are our cuties.

We decided to wait till we got home to dazzle them up with sparkle, in order to avoid a huge mess in the library and in our cars.  But all in all they are quite darling!

I’m feeling really good about this group. I forsee many more crafts & friendships developed.  Pinterest continues to inspire.  Onto finding next months project.  We’ll be making a wreath.

Hello Monday, Hello Holidays

Yes, it has been some time since you’ve heard from me.  I’ve been on hiatus for several reasons.  The biggest and most important reason….Gordita.  Since our temporary relocation to Philly for the birth of Baby Boy, she became the epitome of Terrible Two’s.  Then by the time we got home, she wasn’t the baby anymore, but the big sis and seemed to have been yearning more attention and with reason.  With her need & my lack of words so to speak, I decided a break from blogging would be a good thing.  Her and I have been crafting & playing a whole lot.  Just having lots of fun mommy and daughter time.  It’s been great.  She’s still her crazy, not-as-terrible two year old self and I’ve once again found words & ideas to share.  So here I am!

And I’m gonna start the week right with a few Hellos….

Hello to the Holiday Season.  I’m really looking forward to you, this year.

Hello to my new treadmill.  I’m ready to spend some time with you this week.  Thanksgiving dinner wasn’t very nice to my waistline, but it was soooooooooo good and worth it.

Hello to the newest member of our family, Gumball Butterscotch.  She arrived this past Saturday and the Pollitos are excited to have her.  But in all reality, I think I’m most excited about this new family tradition.  I have a ton of ideas for her. Let’s see what she gets herself into. {Maniacal Laugh}

Hello glue gun, epsom salt, paint, modge podge & other crafty items.  Tonight marks the first meeting for a group I started called, Poconos Pinterest Peeps.  If you guessed that, we’re going to be crafting, you’re right.  I can’t wait to tell you more about it tomorrow.

Hello to a Trip down Memory Lane.  I’ll be heading to my elementary school later on in the week for a ceremony to open up a time capsule, which we buried some twenty years ago.  There I go aging myself.

Hello Family Game Night at the Lil Giant’s School.

Quite a busy week for us.  Bring it on.  I’m ready to take on the world (the result of a few cups of coffee…teehee).  How about you my fine friends, what are you saying Hello to?

Thankful Door Decor

You guys know how much I adore Pinterest and all the Pinspiration one can find on a daily basis.  Well some weeks back I stumbled upon a super cute Fall themed front door, whipped up by Kim at Sand & Sisal.  I absolutely fell in love with it  and knew that I wanted to recreate it.  However, because my door was already decorated for Halloween, I planned for a Thanksgiving theme.

Ain’t it cute, fun & whimsy, as she points out.

And here we have my take on a “wordy” front door.  Giving THANKS!

There you have it. Fun letters, modge podge, scrap book paper and raffia are making my door welcoming and reminding us to be Thankful.
